Ignas Maknickas is a 2023 Young Classical Artists Trust winner and has performed in numerous competitions. He took first prize at the XIX Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition for Youth in Szafarnia, First Prize at the XX Piano Competition ‘Young Virtuoso’ in Zagreb, Third Prize at the Aarhus Piano Competition and, in 2021, was the semi-finalist of the Vendome Prize. In the same year, he received ‘The Queen’s Commendation for Excellence’ as the highest-scoring graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music. In September 2021 he commenced the Master of Arts programme at the RAM on a full scholarship, studying with Professor Joanna MacGregor CBE.

Born in California in 1998, Ignas was raised in Lithuania. He has appeared as a soloist with leading orchestras and in recitals across Europe, and 2023-24 sees him debuting in the United States. His programme for this recital presents a striking contemporary work by Lithuanian composer Alvidas Remesa (b1951), Preludes by Ukrainian composer Sergei Bortkiewicz (1877-1925), along with established piano repertoire works by Chopin and Schubert.

Thaxted Festival is delighted to present Ignas Maknickas in Dunmow, as part of our Developing Artists Programme. The programme, supported by a dedicated fund, provides a platform for professional musicians and composers at the earlier stages of their careers. Through it, we are able to bring outstanding musicians to a wide public within our summer Festival season in Thaxted, as well as through our outreach events in other locations. Thaxted Festival is grateful for an award from Essex County Council’s Arts and Cultural Fund in support of our Developing Artists Programme.

Refreshments will be available before the performance and during the interval, and doors will be open from 2.30pm. Tickets will also be available on the door, subject to availability.

The venue for this recital is E T Foakes Memorial Hall, Stortford Road, Dunmow, CM6 1DG. Click here for location.
