Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik K 525; Puccini I Crisantemi; Rossini String Sonata No 3 in C major; Schubert Piano Quintet in A major, D 667, The Trout.
Our 2021 Festival comes to a close with the outstanding Covent Garden Soloists, section principals from the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, led by Joint Concert Master Vasko Vassilev, and featuring Anna Blackmur – violin; Amelie Roussel – viola; Tim Hugh – cello; Tony Hougham - double bass.
They will be joined by pianist Christopher Weston for a performance of Schubert’s joyous Piano Quintet in A major. The quintet is affectionately given the name The Trout, as the fourth movement is a set of variations on Schubert's earlier song of the same name. Rather than the usual piano quintet line-up of piano and string quartet, the Trout Quintet is written for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass. The programme will include a selection of other works for string ensemble.
This concert is sponsored by Gadsby Wicks, together with Gareth and Pauline Stainer, and other friends of Thaxted Festival who wish to remain anonymous.
