VOCES8 at Thaxted Festival

Andrea Halsey, Eleonore Cockerham – Soprano; Katie Jeffries-Harris, Barnaby Smith (director) – Alto; Blake Morgan, Euan Williamson – Tenor; Christopher Moore, Jonathan Pacey – Bass

We are delighted to welcome leading British vocal ensemble VOCES8 to Thaxted Festival for the first time. Sing Joyfully is a programme that celebrates the joy and beauty of voices in harmony, which will come alive within the rich acoustic of Thaxted Church. With music from the Renaissance to jazz and pop, this concert combines ethereal and angelic voices with the acclaimed stage presence of VOCES8.

The programme takes its title from William Byrd's anthem. It will include Britten's Choral Dances from Gloriana, while Renaissance giants Palestrina, Weelkes and Orlando di Lasso stand alongside arrangements of jazz and pop classics by Nat King Cole and Irving Berlin, Simon and Garfunkel, and van Morrisson. Bach gets a twist by Ward Swingle, folk is represented by Kate Rusby, and there will definitely be some bossa nova. Add in Rachmaninov and Sibelius, and the evening promises to be one of delight and variety.

This concert is sponsored by friends of Thaxted Festival who wish to remain anonymous, and by Compliance Management Services.
