Leading Scottish tenor Nicky Spence OBE is described by The Times as: ‘a tenor who combines heroic tone and a poetic sensibility that takes the breath away’. Equally at home on the opera stage or in the recital hall, Nicky has a huge breadth of repertoire, from classical to leading contemporary composers. This recital consists of songs which deal with father-son relationships, related to Nicky’s own experience, by composers ranging from Robert Schumann, Gabriel Fauré and Herbert Howells through to Victoria Wood, Tim Minchin and André Previn, by way of many others! Dylan Perez is widely sought after as an accompanist and enjoys a particularly close performing relationship with his husband – Nicky Spence.

A complete listing of items to be performed is here.

‘Only Nicky Spence as Gerontius, both touchingly introspective and fiercely dramatic when required, hints at that extra dimension, establishing him as one of the finest interpreters of the role around today…’ Andrew Clements, reviewing Dream of Gerontius in the Guardian

To complete our evening of song, a candlelight performance by countertenor Alexander Chance and lutenist Toby Carr follows this event at 9.00pm, which can be booked in the next entry.
