Our 2022 season was launched on Sunday 6 March with a recital by exciting young musicians Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux (violin) and Ben Tarlton (cello). Their virtuoso talents extended across works by Biber, Bach, Mozart and Ravel’s challenging Sonata duo for violin and cello. An audience of over 100 Thaxted Music Lovers greatly appreciated the performance, which took place in Thaxted’s United Reformed Church. The musical items were interspersed with information about the Festival’s forthcoming summer season, including details of the artists and the programmes they will perform.

The conclusion of the recital was marked by a tribute to Ukraine, in an arrangement of the Ukrainian national anthem performed by Charlotte and Ben, with the deeply respectful audience standing and observing a moving and prolonged silence at the end.

The format of a recital together with full information on our season is an established part of our Festival timetable, and it was particularly enjoyable this year to resume this event which was not possible under last year’s restrictions. In addition to a deep appreciation of the music, members of Thaxted Music Lovers enjoyed refreshments afterwards, with a chance to socialise and meet the artists. Ben and Charlotte made a strong impression as musicians to watch in future, and we hope to welcome them back to a Festival event before too long.
