Each year, across four weekends in June-July, our small North Essex town of Thaxted hosts a major Festival which draws audiences from a wide area to enjoy performances by professional artists of national and international standing.
At Thaxted Festival, we pride ourselves not only on the quality and variety of the performances, but also on our professional standards. These include our artistic direction, our promotion and ticketing service, our friendly atmosphere with personal assistance before and during the season, our relationship with Thaxted Music Lovers who provide vital support, our standing with the Church and the Town, and – not least – our renowned home-made cakes and interval refreshments!
All this is achieved through the efforts of teams of volunteers who work throughout the year to make each Festival a success, with musical events to remember in the unrivalled acoustic and uplifting surroundings of Thaxted Church. And when the summer is as glorious as it has been in 2018, the Thaxted Festival experience is particularly special.
We would very much like to hear from you if you live in Thaxted or the surrounding area and are able to spare some time to offer your skills and join our small, dedicated teams to help us maintain and develop our unique Thaxted offering. You will find us eager to welcome new volunteers, and we will help you fulfil any of the many tasks it takes to keep our highly successful local Festival flourishing.
Can you offer your help in any of these areas?
If you can help in any of these areas, or would like to explore with us how you could offer your skills, please contact us:

Thaxted Festival has been a central part of the life of Thaxted every summer since 1980, although its roots go back to Gustav Holst and the Whitsuntide Festivals he ran with Fr Conrad Noel between 1916 and 1918 in the Church. These days our varied programme ranges from classical symphony orchestras to sacred choral music, jazz, folk, world music, and – importantly – relaxed events for all the family, as well as music education projects led by professional musicians in local primary and secondary schools. The 2019 Thaxted Festival will run from 21 June to 14 July, and priority booking opens for our Thaxted Music Lovers in February.
