Thaxted Festival patrons

Thaxted Festival is very pleased to announce the appointment Marijke Curtis and Zeb Soanes as patrons of the Festival.

Marijke Curtis, with her late husband Philip, re-founded the modern Thaxted Festival in 1986. From then onwards it has flourished in its regular format of four weekends in June-July in Thaxted Parish Church. Marijke has wide experience and musical connections from her many years of planning past Thaxted Festivals, and now runs her own season of concerts in Wethersfield Parish Church, in North Essex, each spring. We welcome the continuity and experience which Marijke brings to our whole operation.

Zeb Soanes needs no introduction to Thaxted audiences, having performed at the Festival as narrator with Opus Anglicanum several times in recent years. In October 2019 he performed John Betjeman’s Banana Blush for our highly successful autumn event, with Carole Boyd, Chris Warner, and musician friends. A familiar voice on BBC Radio 4 News and the Shipping Forecast, he is a regular on The News Quiz, From Our Own Correspondent, and has presented Radio 3’s Saturday Classics. With a distinguished broadcasting, stage and audio-recording career, and his many links with performers and young musicians, we are delighted to welcome Zeb as a Thaxted Festival patron.
