The Emma Johnson Trio

Clarinet Goes To Town – the Birth of Jazz

Saturday 22 June, 7pm

Clarinet virtuoso Emma Johnson traces the roots of jazz, paying tribute to the early American clarinet greats such as Sidney Bechet, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, with the help of John Lenehan (piano) and Paul Clarvis (percussion). Expect a riot of styles as Ragtime, Cakewalks, Tango, Habaneras, and Spirituals combine to form the beginnings of jazz in the early twentieth century. After this concert there will be Morris and Country Dancing outside as part of the Church’s Patronal Festival. The Abbots Bromley Horn Dance will take place at 10.15pm. This concert is sponsored in memory of Denys and Marie Stott.
