Thaxted Festival is seeking an individual or individuals to take a lead role in the organisation of one of Britain’s most successful local festivals. Reporting to the Chairman and the Festival Foundation Board, they will work closely with our volunteer teams across all functions of planning, promoting and mounting this annual music festival which takes place over four weekends in June and July each year in Thaxted Parish Church.

You will need to be highly organised, clear thinking, have excellent interpersonal skills and be familiar with current office technology and social communications. Hours of work can be flexible, but regular availability throughout the year in and around our Thaxted office is important, as is a presence throughout the concert season itself.

Ann Pickhaver has been our tireless Administrator over some 20 years. She wishes to step down after the 2020 season, and our intention is that a new incumbent will work alongside her during the remainder of 2019 into 2020. Learning and developing the role to meet our current and future needs will be a unique and rewarding challenge. Whilst a degree of remuneration can be offered for this role, in keeping with the volunteer nature of the Festival this will not be regarded as covering the full extent of the commitment.

To express initial interest, please contact the Chairman, Peter Donovan, on, or leave a message at the Festival office 01371 831421.

Thaxted Festival has been a central part of the life of Thaxted every summer since 1980, although its roots go back to Gustav Holst and the Whitsuntide Festivals he ran with Fr Conrad Noel between 1916 and 1918 in the Church. These days our varied programme ranges from classical symphony orchestras to sacred choral music, jazz, folk, world music, and – importantly – relaxed events for all the family, as well as music education projects led by professional musicians in local primary and secondary schools. The 2019 Thaxted Festival ran from 21 June to 14 July.
