Thaxted Festival 2025 is set to be one of our most exciting seasons yet, bringing together world-class orchestras, spellbinding soloists, and unforgettable performances in the stunning setting of Thaxted Parish Church. Whether you’re a lover of classical music, opera, jazz, or choral masterpieces, there’s something in store for you.
Here are six unmissable highlights from this year’s line-up:
Friday 20 June, 7.30pm
Our Orchestra-in-Residence, London Mozart Players, returns to Thaxted to launch the festival in spectacular style. Rising-star violinist Charlotte Saluste-Bridoux takes centre stage for Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, a monumental work demanding both technical brilliance and emotional depth. The evening opens with Mozart’s lively overture to The Marriage of Figaro and concludes with his glorious ‘Jupiter’ Symphony. A night of majestic orchestral sound in the church’s breath-taking acoustics.
Sunday 22 June, 6.00pm
Acclaimed tenor Nicky Spence - winner of the BBC Music Magazine Personality of the Year and an OBE for services to music - delivers a deeply personal recital exploring father-son relationships. With a programme spanning Schumann, Fauré, Herbert Howells, Victoria Wood, Tim Minchin, and André Previn, this promises to be a moving and thought-provoking evening. Nicky comes to us direct from singing the lead role in Britten’s Peter Grimes with Welsh National Opera to sell-out audiences in Cardiff and on tour.
Sunday 29 June, 7.30pm
A rising star in the piano world, Jaeden Izik-Dzurko took home first prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2024, wowing audiences with his masterful interpretations. His Thaxted debut features an electrifying programme including Bach’s Partita No. 4, Chopin’s Sonata No. 3, and Rachmaninoff’s Op. 23 Preludes. An unmissable chance to hear this in-demand artist here in Thaxted as his international career takes off!
Sunday 6 July, 6.00pm
Steeped in tradition and famed for performing at royal occasions, the Choir of St George’s Chapel is one of the world’s finest choral ensembles. This exquisite concert journeys through the best of English choral music, culminating in Duruflé’s ethereal Requiem - a transcendent masterpiece of the 20th century.
Friday 11 July, 7.30pm
For those who love their music with soul and grit, Mighty Like the Blues delivers an electrifying night of blues, featuring legendary jazz guitarist Jim Mullen. From raw, foot-stomping energy to haunting blues ballads, this promises to be a night of pure musical passion.
Saturday 12 July, 5.00pm
Opera lovers, rejoice! Following their acclaimed performances of The Elixir of Love and The Magic Flute, Wild Arts returns with Tchaikovsky’s deeply moving Eugene Onegin. A tale of love, rejection, and fate, this production blends stunning voices with sumptuous music. With a long interval for picnics in Thaxted’s Conservation Garden, it’s an unmissable summer opera event.
