Sunday 27 June, 7.30pm
In an exciting collaboration, the assured and polished vocal quintet Opus Anglicanum join with remarkable pianist and improviser Jason Rebello. The programme centres around the ancient Gregorian chants for the feast of Candlemas, linked with psalms and antiphons, all illuminated and enhanced by live piano improvisation. The effect is startlingly beautiful and thought-provoking, especially in the magnificent setting of Thaxted Church, and speaks directly to our troubled times.
Opus Anglicanum need no introduction to Thaxted Festival audiences, having delighted us with their rich vocal programmes over many years. Pianist Jason Rebello was classically trained but burst onto the UK scene with albums and performances acclaimed by classical and jazz critics alike. His recent work has included new interpretations inspired by Purcell and Schumann, and now this meditative collaboration with the voices of Opus Anglicanum.
This concert is sponsored by friends of Thaxted Festival who wish to remain anonymous.
(£10 age 30 and under offer)
Note: Zeb Soanes does not appear with Opus Anglicanum in this concert, but he does appear in our concert of Friday 2 July with Selina Cadell.
