Venue: The Fry Art Gallery, Castle Street, Saffron Walden CB10 1BD.
Tickets: £15. Age 30 and under £10.
A private view at this gem of a local public gallery, which showcases work by North-West Essex artists from the mid-twentieth century who became known as the ‘Bardfield Artists’. Curated by Mark Hearld and Colin Wilkin, the summer exhibition – Fry’s Popular Delights – will transform the gallery, with works from the permanent collection alongside many items from the popular culture of the time. It will show how these artists responded to popular art and drew inspiration for their own work. www.fryartgallery.org
Also on display will be an exhibition of work by local illustrator and digital artist Michelle Thompson, whose work is familiar across many book jackets and illustrations. To complete the evening, there will be a glass of wine, music from local students, and an introductory talk by a Gallery trustee.
