Critically acclaimed opera company Wild Arts (★★★★★ Opera Now, ★★★★ The Guardian) make a welcome return to Thaxted with an exciting new production of Mozart’s final opera. Long interval for picnics/dining!
Following last season’s great Festival success, Wild Arts return with a new imagining of Mozart’s final opera. In a fairy tale land, Prince Tamino falls in love with Pamina, the kidnapped daughter of the mysterious Queen of the Night, and embarks on a dangerous mission to rescue her. His fantastical journey transforms everything he thought he knew about this dream-like world of darkness and light...
Mozart’s ever-popular score comes alive in this new fully-staged production, sung in English by a stunning cast from major opera houses, with a chamber orchestra.
Founded in 2022, Wild Arts makes great music fresh, enjoyable, and available to everyone – all while working within the confines of what the planet can support. Last year’s production of The Elixir of Love was received with unanimous critical acclaim.
There will be a 90-minute interval for picnics in Thaxted’s Conservation Garden, close to the church, or dinner locally. When you book tickets for the opera, you will be able to purchase places for your picnic at £2 each. The garden will be open from 4.00pm when you can bring in your picnic and set up your places. A very limited number of seats and table space will be provided, so we advise you to bring your own. The garden will be stewarded throughout the evening, so that you can safely leave things and collect them at the end of the opera.
Please note the earlier starting time for this event.
‘A joy beyond all expectation – sassily delivered and outstandingly well-sung.’ Michael White, former associate editor of The Guardian, reviewing 2023’s The Elixir of Love.
